Atlanta, Ga. – December 15, 2015 – Tempo Telecom, LLC, (“Tempo”) a leading provider of prepaid and Lifeline voice and data communications services throughout the United States, announced today the launch of Tempo TotalAssist, a new proprietary, web-based mobile app and back-end system that automates the signup and approval process for eligible Lifeline wireless phone customers.
TotalAssist was developed in-house and is designed to store, track, process and approve Lifeline applications in real time through the National Accountability Lifeline Database (NLAD). TotalAssist simplifies both the approval process and the back-end system process and maintains 100% compliance with Lifeline program rules. It was designed to work on desktop computers, laptops, mobile tablets and smartphones and has been optimized for touch-screen use.
Tempo is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Birch Equity Partners, LLC, a private equity firm focused on investing in small to mid-sized expansion-stage businesses with demonstrable growth potential. “I’m thrilled to announce the successful investment in the development and implementation of TotalAssist,” said Vincent M. Oddo, Birch Equity Partners Managing Director and President & CEO of Tempo. “Lifeline services provide vital resources to individuals and families in need and TotalAssist provides a fast and efficient way to sign-up for this service.
Tempo’s Lifeline home phone and wireless products help families and individuals in the U.S. obtain government assisted wireline and wireless services so that they can have access to doctors, family members, emergency service providers, as well as employers and other critical contacts. The federal Lifeline program was created by Congress in 1985 to ensure that all Americans have access to quality telephone service. To be eligible for the Lifeline program, potential customers must take part in a federal assistance program such as Medicaid or Food Stamps, or earn no more than 135 percent of the federal poverty level. Subscribers may not receive service from more than one Lifeline carrier at the same time.
“This marks Tempo’s first in-house development of a key sales automation tool. Our approach to enhance the program was two-fold to make Lifeline more accessible and to simplify the application process and that’s exactly what we did,” said Darrell Freelon, Manager of Dealer Sales at Tempo. “TotalAssist takes the industry standard to a higher level with respect to the complete customer engagement cycle. We completed two months of field and user acceptance testing prior to this rollout to ensure a seamless adoption by our dealers nationwide.”
“This launch improves the seamless communication between Tempo dealers in the field and Tempo’s Lifeline approval team, enabling the company to issue a customer’s mobile device in the span of just minutes,” said Ronald Mattingly, Manager of Agent Sales at Tempo. “Our dealers will now be able to respond to customer needs like never before while maintaining compliance with the Lifeline program.” The company plans to launch a new abbreviated recertification process for customers already enrolled in the program in the coming months.
